Gillig Buses
Gillig Low Floor Buses
For years, Gillig has been a prominent school bus manufacturer in California. The company began as a wagon maker in 1890 in San Francisco. In 1937 the company moved their operations accross the bay to Hayward, California. In 1980, Gillig dropped their school line and began marketing transit buses. The design of the Phantom, their first transit model, was based on their school bus design that was introduced in the 1970s.
Gillig has become a very successful player in the US transit bus market. The Phantom is one of the most common models found in both city transit and shuttle fleets. In the late 1990s, the Gillig low floor model known as the Advantage was introduced. Following in footsteps of the Phantom, the Advantage is becoming a popular model in its own right.
